A helmet of the "zunari—kabuto" variety, known for having smoothly curving lines, it is adorned with a crescent moon front—crest and deer antlers to either side. Since ancient times, the moon and sun were thought to be embodiments of the deity Marishiten, who governed light. Part of a traditional armour set known as Tosei—gusoku in Japanese, this armour was owned by Yamanaka Yukimori (also known as Shikanosuke) who served the Amago clan of Izumo province. After the Amago clan surrendered to the Mohri, Yukimori burned with the desire to restore his clan to its former greatness and became known across the San'in region as a man of exceptional talent. Legend has it that he once prayed to a crescent moon to bring down upon him seven misfortunes and eight hardships in exchange for military valour.
Upper—body armour made from a thick iron sheet with supplementary breastplates for extra chest protection. Black—lacquered plating has been added to shield the upper arms.
Gauntlets made from leather scales and iron plates that wrap around the arms. The glove section is made of supple deerskin leather to protect the wearer's fingers.
Lower torso protectors that feature thigh guards made of black plating and white thread that are worn under waist guards painted in stratified colours. The design is said to mimic the countless stars that dot the night sky.
Greaves made from iron plates bent into curves, painted in black lacquer and affixed to leather. The sky blue lacing is a simple design addition that invokes images of shooting stars.
