Description

A wrought—iron hat issued to low—ranking foot soldiers too poor to afford better armour before joining or being conscripted.

A thin, unadorned breastplate made from overlapping plates of iron. These pieces, produced in large quantities for massive battles, emphasise function over aesthetics.

Gauntlets made from bound iron plates.

Lower torso protection made from bound iron plates. The "kusazuri," which protect the waist, and the "haidate," which protect the thighs, emphasise function over aesthetics.
